Taguig
values courage, the ability to bravely stand
up against adversity. And on December 11,
2004, the Fort Open Grounds bore witness
to an astounding example of valor as world
boxing champion Manny Pacquiao took on former
Muay Thai fighter Fahsan 3K Battery at “Yanig
sa Taguig.” he city goverment lobbied
for the fight to be held in the city becauseit
was a fiercely held belief that Pacquiao’s
fighting spirit would encourage the country
and that Taguig was a viable stage for a
world-class sporting event. Hyped as the
“Filipino Destroyer,” Pacquiao
knocked Fahsan out in the 4th round, the
Thai boxer’s first knockout in 53
fights. The effort was proven correct on
both accounts, inspiring an entire nation
and putting Taguig on the world stage.
Fight for Peace and Order
Taguig has fought off its own adversaries,
winning in its efforts against crime with
various security measures that promote peace
and order throughout the city.
In close collaboration with several departments
and agencies, a 24-hour anti-crime hotline
has curbed crime and facilitated quick and
easy access to local government, police,
and fire stations around the clock. To promptly
respond to emergency calls, the city formed
the Special Response Team (SRT). Improved
peacekeeping efforts have resulted in 14
additional sub-precincts in critical areas
to supplement existing precincts. In addition,
the city has provided the local law enforcement
with 49 hand held radios, 6 motorbikes for
the SWAT force, and 10 patrol vehicles to
improve police communication and mobility.
Barangay officials have also been called
to implement anti-terrorist measures, from
submitting weekly reports on new migrants
to cautioning residents when riding utility
vehicles or going to public places.
