Cinemanila, Back in Taguig!

Taguig City once again plays host to the 2011 edition of the Cinemanila International Film Festival slated November 11 to 17 at the Market! Market! Cinemas, Bonifacio Global City.

The renewed partnership between Cinemanila and Taguig City promises to be a more enduring one, with Cinemanila adopting the city's hip slogan -- "I ? Taguig" -- as part of this year's festival theme, "I ? Cinema. I ? Cinemanila."

Mayor Lani Cayetano emphasize the importance of arts and culture in any community and showed her genuine concern for Filipino artists. In fact, part of the 100 million budget for scholarship and the 1 Billion budget for education of Taguig will be used to conduct trainings and workshops of students in theatre, drama,Music film making, acting and other art related talents.

"I am very happy and honored that Cinemanila International Film Festival is back in our City. Sealing a partnership with private entities like the Cinemanila Foundation clearly illustrates our advocacy for public-private partnership as a tool towards the attainment of our social development programs," Mayor Cayetano said.

This year's festival will showcase around 50 international and local films and screenings will take place at Market! Market! Cinemas and Fully Booked, while Bonifacio High Street will be the venue of another important component of Cinemanila International Film Festival - the Cinebarangay - considered as unique and revolutionary, highlighted by educational workshops and free screenings held outdoors and in public venues such as wet markets, plazas, barangay halls, etc.

Cinebarangay is Cinemanila's way of bringing the cinema closer and more accessible to the people. It was initiated by Director Tikoy Aguiluz, the founder of the festival, with the primary purpose of giving the whole community a chance to experience said films.

Meanwhile, Atty. Darwin Icay, the Mayor's spokesperson disclosed that the rekindled alliance between Cinemanila and Taguig is not just a yearly collaboration, but a year-long one. Cinebarangay will be staged not only for the duration of the festival, but goes beyond as Cinebarangay takes place monthly in different venues in Taguig. Indeed, working together towards a common objective is sweeter and stronger the second time around for Cinemanila and the City of Taguig.

The 2011 Cinemanila International Film Festival is presented by the City of Taguig and the Cinemanila International Film Festival Foundation, together with Market! Market! Cinemas, in cooperation with Cinema One, Manila Bulletin, Business World, Click the City, Pep.ph, Spot.ph, Web Philippines, TBWA\Mangada Santiago Puno, Outpost Visual Frontier, Solid Video Corporation, Goethe Institut, and the Oberhausen Film Festival.
