2018-01-28-Taguig City to provide P3-million worth of calamity assistance to Albay

The Taguig City government is extending a helping hand to the province of Albay, with its Sangguaniang Panlungsod approving the release of P3,000,000 in calamity assistance to Albay residents.

The assistance came on the heels of the declaration of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Albay placing the province under a state of calamity after the continuous eruption of Mayon Volcano from January 13 to January 19.

Taguig City’s P3 million assistance includes a total of 3,000 relief goods consisting of hygiene kits, face masks, rice and canned goods.

The city also started on Sunday at Bagumbayan Central School in Legazpi City its medical mission which provided free medical assistance to the families living in the evacuation center. Free checkups and medicines were also provided to the residents. The medical mission will continue in Sto. Domingo town in Albay on Monday.

“We’ve seen the news and we know that they really need our help. We hope that through this simple act, we will be able to give them hope and love,” Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, who also hails from Albay, said.

Mayor Lani also asked everyone to include the safety and well-being of the Filipinos affected in the province of Albay in their thoughts and prayers.

The financial assistance being extended by Taguig City is just the latest of the regular help that it extends to other local government units.

When Typhoon Nina severely struck Bicol Region in December 2016, Taguig City provided a P9-million calamity assistance. Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, together with Vice Mayor Ricardo “Ading” Cruz Jr. and some city councilors, also personally visited the provinces of Albay and Camarines Sur and the people of the areas adversely affected by the typhoon.

And last September 2017, House Deputy Speaker and Taguig 2nd District Rep. Pia Cayetano and other city officials made a personal visit to Marawi residents and turned over 46 crates of relief goods to the disaster operation center of Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 10 in Marawi City.

The city also handed a P1-million calamity assistance to the residents affected by Typhoon Lawin which lashed the provinces of Kalinga, Apayao, Mountain Province, Abra and Benguet in October 2016. In January 2014, the local government also turned over a total of P1.25 million in calamity assistance funds to five municipalities in Eastern Samar hit by Super Typhoon Yolanda.

“Taguigeños will continue to give assistance to our fellow Filipinos. We will always try to extend our support as much as we can to those who are really in need,” Mayor Lani added. ###
